Safety Bulletins and Alerts

Utilizing the comment feature in Bulletin Alerts

Posted 23-May-2013 by Matt.Wall  and filed under: Safety Bulletins and Alerts, What's New at SafetySync?

Making SafetySync an integral part of your safety culture can be accomplished in a few ways; with this post, we want to focus on using our Safety Bulletin & Alert component. As you know, communicating commitments to health & safety, identified hazards, and changes to safety related issues are all requirements for completing your COR. This usually has a follow-up requirement to implement a system in which feedback from employees can be freely given.

As seen below we've built our system to satisfy those requirements.

The comment feature comes with a host of options found in your components page. You can set options such as hiding comments until an administrator approves their content, and limiting the amount of posts a user can make per bulletin.

Safety bulletins emailed to employees now have "read confirmation"

Posted 27-Apr-2011 by brian.nodwell  and filed under: Safety Bulletins and Alerts, What's New at SafetySync?
The SafetySync OHSMS has always had the ability to send copies of a safety bulletin to the appropriate employees' email accounts on record.  However until now, the employees would still need to log into the system and spend a pre-determined amount of time reading a safety bulletin before their compliance was registered.

We've now added a "Reviewed" stamp to the bulletin that only appears once the email message has been opened.  When this stamp appears, that particular user will automatically be credited in the system and their compliance will be updated immediately, thereby saving the redundant step of reading the bulletin again in the system.

This functionality may not work for all employees, as it requires the user to either allow images in their email application (default setting or on a message by message basis).  In this case, employees still have the option of clicking on the "Confirm" link to obtain the same read confirmation.

International Workers' Memorial Day

Posted 28-Apr-2010 by brian.nodwell  and filed under: Safety Bulletins and Alerts
In a world where, on occasion, death, injury, and illness at work are hidden away and taken for granted, Workers' Memorial Day is an opportunity to highlight the preventable nature of most workplace accidents and ill health and to promote campaigns and union organisation in the fight for improvements in workplace safety.  Each year, more than two million women and men die as a result of work-related accidents and diseases.  Workers suffer approximately 270 million occupational accidents each year, and fall victim to some 160 million incidents of work-related illnesses.  Hazardous substances kill 440,000 workers annually – asbestos claims 100,000 lives.  One worker dies every 15 seconds worldwide. 6,000 workers die every day. More people die whilst at work than those fighting wars

April 28 is the day we remember the workers killed, disabled and injured by their work.
The slogan for the day is Remember the dead - Fight for the living

For all you safety managers or company executives out there using our software, today might be a good day to send out a safety bulletin in SAFETYSYNC to let your employees know that you appreciate them, and that you're continually looking out for their safety.

Attaching Images and Documents to Safety Bulletins

Communication is one of the key components in having an effective Safety Management System.  According to COR, ISO, and CSA safety standards, management must regularly communicate safety-related information to its employees.  For some time now, our customers have been using the Safety Bulletins and Alerts to pass on information such as hazards, news, announcements and alerts to all employees (or just to specific locations and positions).   As with our other compliance monitoring components, you can also keep track of which employees have read the post.

At the request of some of our clients, we've made it so that you can now attach images and other documents to your posts.

If you are attaching an image (such as a jpeg, tif, or png file), a thumbnail of the image will be displayed on the bulletin enhancing the presentation of any hazards or announcements.  By clicking on the attachment, employees can view the image in its original size.

If the attachment is a document (such as a spreadsheet), it will open with the associated application (Excel).
